An exciting project begins for the Friends of the CACB and the SCHF. A concept that began with the seed money for a CACB building from the 2016 Florida Legislature led by State Representative and Speaker of the House, Steve Crisafulli.
The Space Coast Health Foundation (SCHF), the CACB’s parent organization who provides monetary, and in kind support for the advocacy center’s programs and services, committed to collaborating with the Friends of the CACB on this building initiative. SCHF CEO Johnette Gindling took the building initiative a step further, sharing a broader vision for the joint building project; one that encompasses space for the development of a nonprofit Center to support additional community needs.
Together the Friends of the Children’s Advocacy Center and the SCHF embarked on and found a 30,000 sq. foot building in Rockledge that would accommodate the needs of the CACB, the offices of the SCHF and a large conference space for lease by nonprofit organizations for training, community events and fundraisers. The SCHF purchased a free standing building with the additional support of the Friends seed money from the Florida Legislature for a permanent home for the CACB and SCHF that will also support community needs. Stark Architecture, LLC is handling the renovation and drafted renderings for the design lay out. W & J Construction was retained for the build out which started in September 2017.

This is an exciting project for the Friends of the CACB and the SCHF. A concept that began with seed money for a CACB building from the 2016 Florida Legislature. State Representative / Speaker of the House, Steve Crisafulli, and the Florida Legislature awarded $1.5 million to the Friends of the Children’s Advocacy Center toward a building project for a permanent home for the CACB. It was Delores Spearman, a dedicated champion of children and a board member of the Friends of the CACB since 2001, who took the initiative to engage Speaker Crisafulli in the discussion with our legislators regarding local CACB needs. She knew Representative Crisafulli was a long time friend and supporter of the CACB. Representative Crisafulli’s commitment to the vulnerable children throughout the state and in our Brevard community was evident by his leadership in the House to increase funding for CAC’s statewide in 2014 and 2015. His Speaker Project in 2016 for our CACB is just additional evidence of his commitment to our most vulnerable children. As a result, the CACB will have a permanent and central location within the county to serve abused children.
The Space Coast Health Foundation (SCHF) is the CACB’s parent organization, providing monetary, and in kind support for the advocacy center’s programs and services. CEO, Johnette Gindling committed to collaborating with the Friends of the CACB in this building initiative and shared a broader vision for a joint building project, one that includes the development of a nonprofit Center to support additional community needs. The SCHF foundation is a public charity working on collaborative projects that will meet the healthcare needs of our community. The inclusion of a nonprofit Center would support the collaborative projects of the foundation and serve the community at large supporting their mission to improve the Health and Wellness of the residents of Brevard County. The mission of the SCHF also encompasses the goals of the CACB to improve our community’s response to child abuse and neglect.
